Luis Manuel Eguileor, best known for
his work in ophthalmology as a contact
lens consultant and teacher, died
Friday at his home in Houston.  He was
68.

Born in Havana, Cuba, Mr. Eguileor
was the only son of Julio Eguileor and
Julia Medel. He had been married to
Martha Crucet Eguileor since 1964.

Mr. Eguileor began his professional
career with contact lenses in Miami in
1967. In 1974, he moved to Houston to
work at the Hermann Eye Center,
(formerly 1111 Optical). After moving
to Miami for a few short years, he
returned to the Hermann Eye Center in
1985 where he served as Clinical
instructor at The University of Texas
Medical School at Houston for several
years, and later to Houston Eye
Associates.

In 1997, Mr. Eguileor was invited to Saudi Arabia where he worked for 4 years at
El Maghrabi Hospital and Centers as a Contact Lens Director.  He also served
as the Professor of Contact Lens Technology at El Maghrabi Hospital and
Centers as well as Examiner in Contact Lenses for the Saudi Board of
Ophthalmology.

Since 2001, he had worked for Charles A. Garcia, M.D., P.A. where he shared
his expertise and dedication with hundreds of patients.

In his quest for excellence, Mr. Eguileor became an expert in the mechanics of
optics and lens fitting. Over the years, he fitted literally thousands of patients
with contact lenses and dealt, on a daily basis, with numerous problems and
experimental cases.   His passion for his work and dedication to his patients
secured his place in the ophthalmology community as the standard for both
customer service and unparalleled devotion to his patients and family.

Mr. Eguileor was an avid reader and writer and often times used the experiences
from real life to create the characters in his unpublished fictional works.  A
renaissance man in the very truest sense of the word, Mr. Eguileor opened
himself to personal education at every opportunity and influenced the lives of
everyone he met through his love of music, art and family. His work at Charles A.
Garcia, M.D., P.A. helped to promote an atmosphere of compassion,
understanding and patience that will be missed.

He is survived by his wife Martha Eguileor their children, Caresse VanPelt, Ofelia
Frangullie, and Manuel Eguileor and their grandchildren, Natalia and Lazaro
Frangullie, Cristopher VanPelt_and Adama Marisol Eguileor, as well as his
